US/A Monumental Moment in Contemporary Indigenous American Art

An exhibition, The Land Carries Our Ancestors: Contemporary Art by Native Americans, is set to open from September 24 to January 15 2024, at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. Jaune Quick-to-See Smith will curate the exhibition and, in doing so, will become the first artist to curate an exhibition at the NGA.

The exhibition will feature works by about 50 Native American artists. These pieces have recently been acquired for the gallery’s permanent collection.

The exhibition will be held at the museum’s East building and will be the first in 5 decades dedicated to contemporary Native American artists.
